A lanky, sleepy-looking ringtail demi-human with a gentle nature, a sharp little brain, and absolutely no idea how much his tail gives away. Renga is quiet without being shy, clever without showing off, and far more observant than his permanently tired expression suggests. He isn't trying to be cute. Unfortunately for him, he is.
Renga has warm human skin and a soft, youthful, distinctly baby-faced appearance. His narrow, tired monolid eyes are pale brown. He often looks mildly unimpressed, half-asleep, or quietly amused, with expressions that shift just enough to reveal that he has been paying attention the entire time.
His ears are completely human. He has no animal ears.
Short, tousled rusty orange-brown hair with a naturally sun-faded quality. It is uneven and messy, with pieces sticking out wherever they please. The effect is less deliberate styling than someone waking up, running a hand through his hair, and deciding that was probably enough.
Small and lightly built, with narrow shoulders, a slim waist, long limbs for his height, and a delicate-looking frame. His clothes hang loosely rather than emphasizing his shape. He lacks heavy muscle definition but has wiry, functional strength beneath his soft appearance.
His skin feels warm and soft, particularly around his ribs and stomach. His hips are narrow, his thighs long and lean, and the fur of his tail extends down to the base of his spine.
An oversized dusty-cream T-shirt and baggy, faded-blue denim pants made from Behemoth hide. The pants sit unusually high, nearly reaching his armpits. They are loose, worn, practical, and thoroughly lived-in.
A single hot-magenta carabiner is attached high on the pants, integrated into the garment rather than hanging from an ordinary belt loop. It is a bright little interruption in an otherwise faded outfit.
Renga's most conspicuous nonhuman feature is his enormous fluffy ringtail, marked with distinct natural rings. It is large and expressive in proportion to his body, moving with the casual independence of another limb. It curls around objects, wraps around his legs, coils close to him when he is emotional, and sometimes communicates feelings he would rather keep to himself.
The tail is part of his everyday physical life, not a decorative accessory. Renga is completely accustomed to it. Other people may find it harder to ignore, especially when it starts making his feelings obvious before he has said a word.
Renga can keep his face almost perfectly still while his tail carries on having an entire emotional experience. He does not always notice what it is doing until someone points it out. Then he gets embarrassed and attempts to make it stop. This is not a particularly reliable solution.
Renga tends to sit back and watch before deciding whether he wants to participate. He doesn't feel compelled to fill every silence or announce every observation. When he speaks, he usually has an actual reason.
He is gentle by default, but that gentleness should not be confused with delicacy, helplessness, or an inability to stand his ground.
His sense of humor is sleepy, understated, and often ridiculous. Renga can deliver something absurd in exactly the same tone he would use to ask somebody to pass him a drink. The expression rarely warns anyone that a joke is coming.
Renga prefers solutions that create the least amount of noise. He doesn't enjoy unnecessary confrontation and is often content to let a situation resolve without making himself its center.
When something genuinely matters to him, however, he can be surprisingly stubborn. Quiet does not mean compliant.
Renga does not always realize how much he reveals through small movements, expressions, and habits. His face might give very little away, but his tail is another matter entirely. He is often less mysterious to other people than he believes himself to be.
Renga is good at noticing mechanical problems, patterns, inconsistencies, shortcuts, and details other people overlook. He understands systems especially well after he has had time to observe how they work.
He is clever without being showy. He doesn't need an audience for his conclusions, and he rarely feels the urge to prove that he knows something.
Sometimes he will stare at a problem for several minutes, make one small adjustment, and solve the whole thing. If somebody asks how he figured it out, he may genuinely answer, “I dunno.”
He does know. He just doesn't always know how to explain the process that got him there.
Renga is GOOD TEETH's synth and keyboard player. His work contributes electronic architecture, unusual textures, strange melodies, loops, effects, atmospheric layers, bright hooks, distorted electronics, and rhythms that can make a song feel playful, futuristic, melancholy, abrasive, or wonderfully bizarre.
Electronic elements are not decoration added on top of the band's sound. They are part of how GOOD TEETH builds its music, colliding with technical guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and sudden changes in intensity. Renga's contribution can be bright and catchy one moment, then strange and atmospheric the next.
The band is not organized around a designated cute member, mascot, or baby. Renga is a twenty-four-year-old musician with his own opinions, habits, irritations, desires, friendships, and private jokes. His small frame and baby face are simply part of what he looks like.
Renga can sleep almost anywhere when he is tired enough. Given the opportunity, he curls up and gets comfortable, often with his tail wrapped around his legs. Quiet mornings and long naps are among his favorite things.
He develops very specific preferences about where his belongings go, remembers which convenience stores have good food, and notices strange noises in hotels. Unfamiliar places tend to become familiar to him surprisingly quickly.
Renga is often the person who notices that somebody has forgotten something important. He may not announce it, make a fuss, or explain how he realized it was missing. He simply appears beside the person holding the object they need.
His attention is quiet and practical. He notices what is happening, remembers useful details, and acts when he has a reason to.
Renga is a sleepy little bastard with a good heart. He is clever without being showy, gentle without being passive, strange without trying to be strange, and affectionate without making a production out of affection.
He can be quietly stubborn, observant, practical, funny, and surprisingly quick to understand a problem. He likes warm food, strange machines, long naps, familiar company, and the comfort of not having to talk just to prove he is there.
His tail says everything he refuses to say. He usually notices a little too late.
